A letter from Chairman Johnston

Dear Friends:
It is a busy time for Democrats here in Massachusetts .
The Democratic Caucuses are over and we will begin to hold forums around the state in March. State Party officials will be holding forums to solicit your input to create the 2007 Action Agenda that will be presented at the State Convention on May 19, 2007 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst . You can log on to our website at www.massdems.org for more information and to locate a forum near you. Forums will be held in each of the state's 10 Congressional districts. We hope you will join us as we ‘March into Democratic Action'.
It is not too late to apply for add-on status for the State Convention. If you are a youth, disabled, or a minority, you are eligible to apply for add-on status. More details and an application are available (here).
College students are encouraged to apply to the Massachusetts Democratic Party for the John F. Kennedy Scholars Program and the John Joseph Moakley Democratic Intern Program . The Kennedy Scholarship is a $1,500 scholarship for the fall semester awarded to one male and one female applicant. The Moakley Internship is a ten-week internship and a $2,500 grant. Details and an application are available (here).
I am also pleased to announce the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Annual Dinner will be held on April 30, 2007 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel in downtown Boston . More details will be coming in future newsletters.
Thank you for your continued activism.
Sincerely,
Philip W. JohnstonChairman

The Democratic Town Committee is launching a new project aimed at getting its members to talk about issue. Democratic Conversations is a series of house meetings being organized in every precinct in town where participants will be encouraged to discuss what motivates them to vote Democratic, the issues they are most passionate.

This puts enormous pressure on the remaining candidates to gain the support of voters whose chosen candidates fall below the 15 percent mark.[11] The focus on viability is designed to weed out small, divisive factions from gaining delegates to disrupt the national convention. Fourth, in the days after an election, results in individual precincts may be delayed, and news organizations may project the winners of those precincts based on statistical analysis or may wait for confirmed results. The Democratic nominating process is a complex system that has evolved over time, and in close races, it can be difficult under the current system to know who is leading in the delegate count.

As Democrats of the Democratic Party, we need to join together in seeking reform within the Democratic Party.

Many Democrats already know their elected representatives within the Democratic Party are no longer following in the time-honored footsteps laid down by the founding fathers of our great Nation. More importantly, we as democrats see our elected representatives within the Democratic Party abandoning the values and principles as set forth within the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

At the very least, many of our elected representatives within the Democratic Party are no longer abiding to the sole reason the Democratic-Republican Party was founded by Thomas Jefferson - "Strong state governments with a weaker federal government."

This is only the beginning of our problems as Democrats, for many of our elected representatives within the Democratic Party have clearly set their own agendas over the members of the Democratic Party, our Nation, and the American people. Overall, many of them no longer think of themselves as being our elected representatives, and now refer to themselves as leaders in the true form of tyrants.

Most Democrats already know their pleas are only being answered by repeated insult and injury by their elected representatives within the Democratic Party. Despite this, we as Democrats can restore control of the Democratic Party back to the party members. All we need to do is cut off donations to the local, state, and national headquarters of the Democratic Party, and to make sure the donations are made directly to worthy and honorable Democratic Party candidates.

So spread the message to everyone of our fellow Democrats, for the Democrat members are taking back control of the Democratic Party. Also, please don't forget to contact and request the Unions and other outside contributors to follow our lead as patriotic Americans. Thank you!

I just found a reference to my blog, www.SpeakOutSouthbridge.com, on your site, and was pleased to see it.

I'm the Republican who attacked the shameless MASSGop and Jenn Nassour, for their pathetic attempts to paint an unfair portrait of Rep. Alicea, D-Charlton.

Alicea is a friend of mine, despite our obvious differences in politics. He is a man of character, unlike the character he ran against, Petey Durant.

Petey is the biggest phoney I've ever seen, and I don't take the talking points or marching orders from my party.

If I wanted to vote for some worthless person with an "R" next to their name, without an original thought, I'd sooner write in myself.

I proudly displayed a sticker that said "Republicans for Alicea" on my car, and continue to support Geraldo in the new election.

Some things should go beyond political parties--namely, elected the best person for the job.

In this race, that's Rep. Alicea.

A Democrat, a succesful Rep., and a good and decent man.
